How to add your LinkedIn profile to emails

A simple, but sometimes overlooked way to promote yourself and/or your business if you are a business owner, is to add a link to your LinkedIn profile on all your outgoing emails.

The following is a quick step-by-step guide on how to do it.

How to quickly add a link to your LinkedIn profile on your outgoing emails:

  1. Log into your LinkedIn profile.

  2. On the LinkedIn menu bar on right-hand-side of the page you'll see a little circle with your photo called "me" with a drop down arrow next to it.

  3. Click the drop down arrow.

  4. Click "View Profile".

  5. Click the pencil symbol to the right of "Add profile section" and "more".

  6. Scroll down to "Contact info" and click the pencil symbol.

  7. At the top of that page you will see "Profile URL" (a URL is the address for a World Wide Web page) and underneath that is the URL address for your LinkedIn profile.

  8. Click the link.

  9. This will take you to a page called "Edit my public Profile".

  10. On the right-hand-side of that page is an option called "Edit your custom URL". At this step you can either highlight and copy your URL address or edit your name and remove any unwanted numbers, etc which helps when someone is searching for you. To edit your name click the pencil symbol next to the www.linkedin.com... For example I had a lot of numbers in my address so I simplified it to www.linkedin.com/in/kategolby

  11. Click save.

  12. Highlight the URL and copy it.

  13. Go to your email account.

  14. Go to "signatures" (the location varies depending on your email provider but will probably be under settings or preferences). Paste the URL.

If you prefer to have a more personalised hyperlink in your email signature such as "Connect with me on LinkedIn" or "Click to see my LinkedIn profile", etc add the following steps:

How to create a hyperlink to your LinkedIn profile

  • Go to "signatures" in your email account.

  • Type in your hyperlink message in "signatures".

  • Highlight these words and go to "edit", then "add link" (the navigation to this may vary depending on your email provider).

  • Once you click the "add link" option a box will appear. Paste your LinkedIn URL into the box. Save as required and you're done!
